6 Day Cycling London 2016 Review and Velodrome Experience

Despite a turbulent couple of months for British cycling and Sir Bradley Wiggins, the pairing of Wiggins and Cavendish managed a very respectable 2nd place at Six Day Cycling London, narrowly pipped by the specialist Belgian team made up of Moreno De Pauw and Kenny De Ketele in the final race of the 6 days, the Madison.

The event was billed as Wiggins’ last competition on British soil however the former Tour de France and Hour World Record holder hinted at a potential return in his post-event interview stating, “Who wouldn’t want to come back with a week like this? I don’t know. I love racing.”

The reigning World Champions will move on to Six Day Ghent in November, the birthplace of Wiggins’, and Cavendish is hoping for the best send-off possible with a win in Belgium, “We’re in top condition and know we can go to Ghent ready to win”.

Regardless of the controversial headlines that surrounded cycling in the build-up to Six Day London, the Lee Valley Velodrome was packed to the rafters from Tuesday to Sunday once again cementing cycling as one of the most popular sports in the UK. On Friday (day 4) the track centre was bustling, full of corporate and private guests enjoying the racing and hospitality with the opportunity to meet the stars of the track immersing themselves in the party atmosphere courtesy of Ministry of Sound DJ Martin 2 Smoove.

The Velodrome, which officially opened in 2012 and became the heartbeat of the very successful London 2012 Olympic Games, is the home of Paragon’s Velodrome Cycling Experience which offers corporate groups and cycling fanatics the opportunity to ride on the boards with sporting their sporting heroes!
