Abu Dhabi Grand Prix: Hamilton Cruises to Victory in Abu Dhabi

Title number five may have been sealed four weeks ago, but that didn’t stop another masterclass from Lewis Hamilton as he won his fourth Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Hamilton celebrated his World Championship Win with a stunning lights-to-flag victory that was reminiscent of a true F1 great. Whether you were watching on television, in the stand or in the comforts of a Yas hotel hospitality suite, you couldn’t fail to be impressed by the Brit.

After taking pole position on Saturday (and smashing the Yas Marina Circuit’s track record in the process) you could forgive Hamilton’s confidence given he had previously converted 8 pole positions into victory. Hamilton was so relaxed pre-race he even managed to take time out to film a mock kidnapping video with Hollywood superstar, Will Smith, which saw him tied up to a stool in the Mercedes team garage. You can watch it below.

Behind Hamilton there were brief outbreaks of drama, not least when the Renault of Nico Hulkenburg flipped upside down, while hurtling through the air following a collision with Romain Grosjean. Hulkenburg’s car caught fire, but thankfully he returned from the incident unharmed, upfront though it was no more than a procession as Lewis Hamilton exhibited why he will be remembered as a true Formula One Great.

2018’s trophy was World Championship number five for Hamilton as he surpassed rival Sebastian Vettel and F1 legend Alain Prost in Championships won. The Brit now only has Fangio and Schumacher ahead of him and is odds on to win F1’s most coveted prize again, next season.
