Lewis Moody talks World Cup & 6 Nations Rugby
I believe if any team can beat New Zealand, it is Australia. The confidence they have taken from winning the Rugby Championship is very clear to see. I have always said to win a World Cup you need to have had a significant win prior to the tournament to give you the belief of wining the big games under pressure, and they couldn’t have had a better win to prepare them for a World Cup. However New Zealand are playing some of the best rugby I have ever seen, their performance against France in the Quarter Finals was out of this world and I suspect this year they will be too strong.
My score prediction is 29-25 to NZ.
I believe England have a nucleus of exciting quality players who work hard for each other and the team. There will be an inevitable clear out of certain players and an introduction of a new generation as well.
I believe the RFU made a poor decision in allowing their most successful and respected leader to leave the game (Martin Johnson), I feel England would be in a far greater position if he had stayed, so I hope they don’t make the same mistake this time around.
Lancaster should be retained in the organisation but I’d like to see him as Director of Rugby in a managerial role but where he still allows the coaches to coach. There should also be a Director of Elite Performance which would be a great role for a Woodward or Johnson type individual who knows the game and crucially what it takes to succeed.
I think England have a strong squad which will be even stronger from this disappointment but it is time for them to stand up and prove they can win. The goal for them should be a Six Nations title within the next 2 years, which I believe is achievable.
