Lizzie Yarnold MBE, holder of all Skeleton Grand Slam titles

Lizzy Yarnold cemented her place in sporting history after winning every major title in her sport of skeleton in an incredible 407 days (four titles in just 400 days!). Lizzy won her first World Championship gold medal at the 2015 event in Winterberg, Germany (with two track records) to add to her Grand Slam collection of the Olympic and European titles and the overall World Cup title in the 2013/2014 and in doing so Lizzy is the second athlete ever and the first British slider to hold the Grand Slam titles at the same time.

The skeleton world has been dominated by Lizzy for the last two seasons, posting an incredible 5 race wins and reaching the podium in 7 of the 8 World Cup races (including 4 golds) in the previous 2013/14 season.

Lizzy was runner up in the 2014 Sky & Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year awards and nominated for the 2014 BBC Sports Personality. And that’s not all she was also picked to take part in skeleton after entering a talent ID programme called ‘Girls for Gold’ in 2008. She was physically and mentally tested and picked to take part in the sport. Her rise to Olympic champion in just 5 years shows her focus and determination, her coaches commentating that her mental toughness is indeed unique.

Now a world renowned athlete and sought after Olympic speaker, Lizzy was awarded an MBE for Services to Sport in June 2014. Twenty-Six year old Lizzy grew up in West Kingsdown in Kent, a keen athlete as a child Lizzy grew up on a farm and tried her hand at most sports including the heptathlon which she specialised in. A Geography & Sports Science graduate, Lizzy is passionate about environmental issues and encouraging healthy role models for young people.

An eloquent and passionate sports speaker Lizzy is the ideal choice for events aimed at younger and more eclectic audiences; her charismatic personality shines out across any venue whilst the stories she shares regarding her experiences as an Olympian and as a young sports person, are both hugely entertaining and incredibly inspiring

We look forward to having Lizzy as a table host for this year’s BBC Children In Need Dinner, ‘An Evening with the Stars’ taking place at Battersea Evolution tonight. In previous years sporting legends have attended and it is fitting to have Lizzy along to join a decorated list of talent who have attended the evening.
