My First Taste of the Events World
I was lucky enough to have been given the opportunity of an events placement with Paragon, and I’m starting to realise just how good this new experience is. The event experience it is offering me is invaluable and I’m looking forward to taking these skills back to university for my final year and to help me in my long term career progression.
The events industry is fast-paced, busy and challenging but enjoyable and rewarding at the same time. It keeps you on your toes so every day is unique and there is always something different to be working on or someone different to be working with. It is wonderfully varied and I’ve being given a diverse range of tasks giving me a wide range of experience in different areas. I feel as though I’ve have learnt a lot already in the short space of time I have been with Paragon and this is all down to my incredibly experienced team, who are kind enough to share their wisdom, expertise and knowledge with me to help me succeed.
My first event was Devon Malcom’s Gala Dinner. This was a unique experience for me as it was the first event I had been involved in from the preparation weeks before right to the very end. The minute details that are involved in creating something so large are astonishing. I didn’t know what to expect at the beginning but as I observed what was going on, I found myself feeling more comfortable in my own ability and how to handle myself and the potential situations that may arise. The night was a success from start to finish and I can honestly say I enjoyed every moment of it.
The main highlight of my time here is definitely my second event. Which was our Rugby’s Biggest Year – The Gala Dinner hosted by Martin Bayfield and other former international rugby stars. The dinner was on a much larger scale compared to the previous one therefore it took a lot more hard work to make it a great night for all. After some extremely busy final few days I was looking forward to the dinner and it didn’t disappoint. Various acts made the night superb for the guests and the fact that it ran so smoothly made it even better for myself and this excellent team I am involved with who had sacrificed so many hours of their own time just to make this night as special as it was.
Our next event is An Evening with the Stars in aid of BBC Children and I can’t wait. It’s going to be huge; over 1,000 people in attendence, entertainment from Tom Chaplin from the legendary band Keane, Scouting for Girls and dancing from the Stars of Strictly as well as incredible cuisine and much more. Over the last 4 years running this event, it has raised over £700,000 which is amazing! I can’t wait to be a part of this year’s success!
As I have said I have only been here a short space of time but it has been fantastic so far and I am looking forward to what is in store.
