Terry Venables famously known as “El Tel” is the former England player and manager. Terry played for three of the big London clubs Tottenham, Chelsea and Queens Park Rangers also making two appearances for England during the 1960’s and 70’s. As many people would clearly remember Venables managed England from 1994 – 1996 leading the nation to the semi-finals of the Championships losing out to Germany just like in the 1990 World Cup, on penalties at Wembley. During his 23 matches in charge of the national side we only lost 1 game. As well as England Venables has also managed high profile premier league clubs and the giants being Barcelona. Not many people would know that Venables was the first footballer to play for England at all levels.

Ray Wilkins MBE has had a very illustrious career either as a player or a manager. Wilkins was a top midfielder during the 1980’s and played for many of the top clubs including Chelsea, Paris Saint-German and AC Milan. During this time Wilkins was a key midfielder for the national side having made 84 appearances and captaining the side 10 times. Scoring 3 goals for England throughout his international career he then turned his attention to coaching. For the majority of the time Ray has been assistant manager at a number of clubs in the premiership, Chelsea, Fulham and most recently Aston Villa are just a few. Nowadays we can see Wilkins on our TV screens from week to week as a pundit for Sky Sports, his knowledge of the game and experience makes it hard not to listen when he is giving his verdict.

Paul Merson most famously played for Arsenal and was part of a great side managed by George Graham. Merson has won many league title an FA Cups and knows what it is like to be on the winning side. Winning PFA Young Player of the Year in 1991 and also getting a call up to the England Under 21 side was a great year for him, he went on to play a total of 21 times and scoring 3 goals for the senior team. Merson also went on to play for Middlesbrough and Aston Villa before dropping down the leagues and becoming player manager of Walsall. Everyone nowadays will recognise Merson for his role on Soccer Saturday with Jeff Stelling on which he reports on the football live as it happens. His character and sense of humour can really been seen by everyone during the show.
