Phil Tufnell Update From Edgbaston
Hello from Edgbaston!
I’m up here to commentate on today’s England v New Zealand ODI but what I’m really looking forward to later on in the summer is the biggest Test series in the world – The Ashes!
I must say I’m a bit more confident of our chances than I was a few months ago; It will be very tough but England seem to have found a nucleus of some really talented young cricketers who I believe will take the fight to the Aussies. They are virtually impossible to play against if they start to bully you – but we’ve got some really tough characters in the side like Ben Stokes who won’t take a backwards step.
Talking of Ben Stokes – I reckon he could have the same impact as Freddie Flintoff did in 2005 – he showed against a very good New Zealand side that he’s got the class to turn a game on its head in a couple of hours – not many can do that. We’ve also got the captain running nicely into form as well; Cooky has been through some tough times in the last year or so but what a character he is to come through the other side as England’s best batter and the guy the Aussies will want to see the back of – if he does well England will have a good chance simple as that – he’s won 3 Ashes series & once as Captain so he knows how to win.
I reckon on home soil we can beat anyone – we’ve got some world class players so don’t bet against it coming down to a decider again at the Oval like in 2005 and 2009 and you can make sure you are there in style with Paragon and a load of my old England teammates at the Phil Tufnell VIP Club!
Let’s hope the selectors don’t find themselves short of a left arm spinner though; I’m quite happy these days cheering on the boys with a glass of something chilled!
Come on England!
