Sir Alastair Cook is a former England Captain, who enjoyed an illustrious career as an opening batsmen.
The most successful and longest running England Captain of all time, Cook is the first English cricketer and youngest person in the world to hit 10,000 Test runs.
In 2018, after retiring from England duty, Cook was the first cricket player in over a decade to receive a knighthood from the Queen.
Alastair Cook made his cricket debut for England in India aged just 21 in early 2006 scoring a 100 in his very first match – a feat achieved by only a handful of players in the history of the game. He followed this up with a further three 100s in his first 10 Tests and became the youngest English player ever to score 2000 Test runs. Alastair also became the quickest English player ever and 2nd youngest worldwide (behind Tendulkar) to score 5,000 Test runs, taking only 5 years to achieve this milestone.
In the 2010/11 Ashes series, Cook scored an amazing 766 runs in the series the second highest aggregate of runs by an Englishman in any Test series. He averaged an incredible 127 having batted for over 36 hours in the series and went on to win the Ashes.
Alastair was made England Captain in August 2012 and held the role until stepping down in 2017, making him the longest serving England Captain.
Cook retired from England duty after a victorious Test series against India in September 2018, scoring an incredible 147 in his final Test innings at The Oval. At the end of 2018, Cook was knighted for services to cricket, and was hailed by Andrew Strauss as ‘England’s greatest ever player’.
Following his retirement, Cook joined the BBC Radio 5-Live ‘Test Match Special’ team, alongside Paragon co-founder Phil Tufnell.
In addition to his cricket achievements, Alastair has recorded a Saxophone Solo for a BBC1 Children’s Programme ‘Freefonix’, as well as appearing in several non-sporting publications which have championed his good looks – including a poll in Tatler magazine for most eligible bachelors and a top ten place in the Sunday Times best looking sportsmen!
