Team Building In London
9 Tips for Corporate Team Building: London Style!
Like any good event, team building is all about making memories, breaking the mould and generating positive and tangible benefits to your organisation.
The BEST team building activities – sorry Paragon team! – are the ones which make you forget that you’re out with your colleagues, rather than your friends.
That means taking people out of the office, out of their usual comfort zone, and into a totally cool, new, creative – and most importantly – super interactive space!
So. If you’re looking for communication team building ideas… ways to super charge your team engagement levels… quick wins to build relationships within a new team… read on!
Just remember. Rule 101 for how not to motivate employees (!) – an event which makes people wish they were back at their desk!
Corporate Team Building London Style
- Waitrose Cookery School
Best for: Getting Stuck In
Offering creativity, relationship building and learning, this team building idea delivers in spades.
you team over to Waitrose Cookery School to be educated by a professional. Learn
how to cook up a storm, get stuck into team building activities and get those
friendly rivalries going with Chef Challenges. The second half of your session
can be spent tucking into your creations.
Think about incorporating a special location or a well-known face to host your group. We think Paragon’s Celebrity Chef Experience is one of the best corporate team building activities in London, OR why not look into a chef’s table or VIP kitchen experience in one of Mayfair or Soho’s incredible restaurants?
- Office Mini Break
This could be a bit of a cheat, but it does tick all the boxes…
Treat your corporate team building day as an incentive trip, by offering your team the chance to stay in a 4 or 5* hotel, complete with overnight stays, restaurant dining and optional activities. Your organisation will reap the rewards as teams spend a relaxed day “networking” in gorgeous settings, and staff will feel more engaged and motivated to do their best for the company in turn.
Winding down with the boss, a glamorous location AND VIP dining options… this is one team building activity that will go down a treat with the work force!
be worried to expand the idea; if a night away from families wouldn’t appeal to
your group, think about including everyone! Maybe you could offer your top
performing workers the chance to treat their families with an overnight stay?
By ensuring the trip takes place on a set weekend, with group dining and
activities, you’ll motivate and encourage relationships, without expecting your
team to sacrifice their personal life.
Best for: Engagement on a Budget
Coming up with ‘none cheesy’ communication team building ideas can be tricky. Using an escape room to throw different groups of people together can be an excellent way to break down boundaries, introduce new team members and widen social networks.
There are over 20 different escape rooms across London, typically ranging between 4 – 12 people. Rooms can be booked separately, or in bundles, so there’s no excuse for not getting out there!
If you don’t fancy heading into town, think outside the box! Paragon recently organised a Midlands conference which brought the escape room to them… Our team decorated the conference facilities break out areas with special props, and groups were met with a series of challenges, all with a twist on the conferences’ overarching theme.
Tour of Lord’s
Best for: Sports Fans & The Competitive!
This one a bit cheeky, as it’s a Paragon speciality(!), but we really do think it fits the corporate team building brief perfectly. Treat your group to a VIP back-stage pass at Lord’s, the home of cricket, as you don your whites to take on the greatest cricketers of this generation!
With Sir Alastair Cook, Chris Woakes and our very own Founder, Phil Tufnell, available, after an incredible summer of cricket, this is the VERY BEST corporate team building activity. (Even, if we do say so ourselves…)
Best for: Team Building
your group into something they would be doing anyway – socialising near a bar –
is a great way to transform a standard Thursday night into one of the best
teambuilding activities ever.
For a special occasion, think about looking at more “special” options. The Lanesborough transforms their wine cellars into a Champagne Grotto, whereas Berry Bros & Rudd (Royally appointed by the Queen and one of London’s oldest fine wine merchants) offer atmospheric cellar tours and fine dining experiences under the streets of Pall Mall…
Best for: Friendly competition
London has some incredible sights, sounds and stopping points. Think about translating your company values, history or products into your very own Scavenger Hunt, fit for 4 – 200 attendees!
the thought is daunting, speak to our event manager for our top tips on
organising something like this. We can tie it into your Summer Gala, Christmas
Do or Annual GM for a truly unique interactive session.
Your Own Gin
Best for: Creativity
Head down to Portobello Road, where your group will have the chance to mix their own brew!
After a cocktail/ mocktail and introductory chat on the history of gin (think debauchery in the Victorian ages, bloody invaders to the British shore and the eponymous ‘Mothers Ruin’ stories!) you’ll be split into groups and encouraged to “sample” all the different elements of your gin before bottling your own creation.
Best for: Trust building exercises
If, for your corporate team building, London is too busy, why not take the team out to the surrounding home counties?
One incredible interactive session available is an action-packed track-day at Mercedes Benz World! Split your team into pairs and set them loose on the high-speed track and off-road experience. There’s no better trust building than that!
you’re looking to reward you guests, or maybe invite some of your clients as
well, then adding a celebrity is a brilliant way to make this day memorable.
Take a look at Paragon’s F1 experience which does just that, offering
Sky Sports Lead F1 Presenter Simon Lazenby as your groups’ personal VIP
Personal Training Sessions
Best for: Getting to know each other!
Today, the mental well-being, fitness and positive socialising of your team should be the highest priority of managers and business owners. That’s why we LOVE the idea of taking your project team or office on their very own personal fitness session!
Tailor the session to various levels of fitness, brand it with your own personal water bottles, and finish the session with a long relaxing lunch, yoga or mediation session. OR, use paragon’s idea, and have the session hosted by your very own personal celebrity! Check out our Haymakers Boxing Experience for more ideas.
So. In summary. The best team building activities are ones which: engage. Inspire. Are Fun. Don’t Require Sacrifices from your Team.
And How Not to Motivate Your Employees?
Making your team building activity
a) too niche b) misaligned with your teams’ values or hobbies c) rolling out the same old tired events year after year. Also, anything which could also be classed as “group work”, “a tick-boxing exercise” or – worst of all – “the mandatory session before we can all go home” is not going to benefit your team or your company, and will often act as an examples of how not to motivate employees. Not every problem can be fixed with a trip to the pub or a fancy lunch!
