The Guide to Cheltenham Festival Corporate Hospitality

The Cheltenham Festival is the highlight of the Jump season with an atmosphere that is sure to enhance any corporate hospitality experience. The Festival encompasses everything that is great about Jump racing, whilst delivering an unforgettable occasion as the best horses, jockeys and trainers fight it out for the greatest racing honours. There are so many options for you to enjoy this event from and this guide is here to help….

Which Day?

So you want to go to the Cheltenham Festival, but which day? It is obvious that Gold Cup Day is the most sought after day with the Cheltenham Gold Cup race being the highlight of the 4 day Festival. However Champions Day, Ladies Day and St Patrick’s Thursday are all great days with a slightly lower price tag. St Patrick’s Day as you can imagine is jam packed and the Guinness is flowing. Our favourite day personally is the Tuesday which is The Stan James Champion Hurdle which the most important hurdle race of the year.

Cheltenham Terminology

Horse racing has it’s own language so here is the horse racing dictionary to help you on the day:

  • Bumper – The informal term for a flat race for jump horses, in which they gain racing experience before going hurdling or chasing
  • Furlong – 220 yards
  • Green – Refers to an inexperienced horse
  • Going – Describes the condition of the racecourse. Ranks are: heavy – soft – good to soft – good – good to firm -firm.
  • Bottle – The ‘tic-tac’ term for 2/1
  • Burlington Bertie – The ‘tic-tac’ term for 100-30.

Which hospitality?

There are several hospitality options to choose from, we have provided a simple summary of a few of the main packages available for ease.

The Cheltenham VIP Club

USP: Experience the magic from the venue; you don’t have to leave, with your very own exclusive balcony with the best views overlooking Cheltenham racecourse.

There’s the chance to mingle with legendary jockey, Mick Fitzgerald who stole the nation’s heart with previous wins at Cheltenham Festival, Grand National and Hennessy Gold Cup and Sky Sports’ Super Sunday’s phenomena, Ed Chamberlin. You’ll also get the chance to listen to insider stories during a lunchtime Q&A session with former jockey and trainer in the National Hunt, Peter Scudamore. Last year saw us welcome cricket’s Phil Tufnell, Darren Gough and Ronnie Irani and football’s Paul Merson and Alan Brazil. 2017 welcomed cricketer Alastair Cook and Sky Sport’s Rachel Wyse.

Platinum Marquee

USP: The Platinum Marquee is located within the atmospheric Tented Village a mere 50 metres from the hugely popular Guinness Grandstand and just minutes from the Parade Ring and the final furlong.

You’ll indulge in delicious cuisine and tailored wines whilst enjoying the buzz ahead of the first race and a day spent at the famous Cheltenham Festival. And it doesn’t stop there you’ll be tipped by the popular celebrity tipster, John Francome, providing you with a great excuse to get in on the action.

Executive Box Hospitality

USP: If you want to entertain a group of clients away from the crowds in a private suite and still enjoy the best views of the races, this is the way to do it.

Why not hire a private box with balconies offering fantastic views of the Cheltenham Racecourse and approach to the second to last fence. Executive boxes are positioned in long run box structure, providing clients with fantastic panoramic views of the world’s greatest racecourse.

Each box joins onto a spacious private balcony, perfect for space, comfort and to enjoy the electric atmosphere which adds to this special occasion. Betting facilities are easily accessible on the box floor, avoiding the hassle of travelling outside into the crowds.

Main Grandstand Suite with Members Seats

USP: Very few facilities sit in the Grandstand so it is an exclusive invite to give. Fantastic views of the finish post.

No-one can argue that the view from the main Grandstand at Cheltenham Racecourse of National Hunt’s greatest racing spectacle is stunning. You can see the whole of the course set against the backdrop of Cleeve Hill and you have the perfect view of the finish of each of these eagerly awaited races. We are delighted to be able to offer a unique opportunity for hospitality within a shared suite in the main Grandstand which is available for 60 guests for sit down dining for all days of the 2018 Cheltenham Festival.

From the suite you can enjoy full VIP hospitality before making your way down to the Members area where you will view the racing from your own private reserved seats located directly overlooking the winning post. This elevated position provides the ultimate view of each race and the seats are yours for the day. During the afternoon you can go back to the suite at any time to make use of the complimentary bar and to enjoy the afternoon tea.

Needham & Needham Boxes and Restaurant

USP:Reasonably priced viewing facility that still offers a great quality hospitality experience.

One of the best facilities at Cheltenham Racecourse, the Needham & Needham structure at the Cheltenham Festival is located in the tented village beside the glass fronted boxes. The boxes overlook the final two fences in the finishing straight, and offer a magnificent unobstructed view of the whole course. They are fantastic facilities available for entertaining at Cheltenham Festival 2018.

They cater for small parties from 2 guests upwards and have private boxes with a bar area, closed circuit TV and unique balcony facilities enabling fantastic views of the course. Each box has glass doors which open onto a communal balcony overlooking the course.

The Needham and Needham Restaurants offer a more open space with a vibrant atmosphere. Guests enjoy the same hospitality experience as in the more intimate Boxes with shared balconies and the same fantastic views of the course.

Travel in style to Cheltenham, how to get there…

Steam Train Direct to Cheltenham Racecourse
Paragon offer you and your guests the unique opportunity to avoid the race traffic by starting your journey at Toddington railway station and taking our magnificent ATR Express steam train directly to the back of the main Grandstand at Cheltenham Racecourse. This experience is very similar to taking a helicopter into the Grand Prix as it avoids all of the traffic in and around the racecourse and takes the stress out of travelling to a major sporting event. Instead of getting stuck in the traffic, you’ll start and end your day in style as you are hauled in luxury vintage carriages by a fine thoroughbred steam locomotive.

Relax and indulge in the nostalgic and tranquil setting of Toddington, where you can enjoy live music courtesy of our very own Irish band performing on the platform (Festival only). Step back in time and relish first class travel as you enjoy a stress-free 35 minute journey through the beautiful countryside of the Cotwolds, Malverns and Vale of Evesham pulled by a magnificent steam train locomotive. Allocated seating is provided on the train and each seat on board has access to a table so you have plenty of room to get out your racing posts and cram in some last minute form study. A full cash bar service is also available throughout the outbound and return journey where tea, coffee, beers, wines, soft drinks and Champagne are available to purchase. Private 1st class 6 seat compartments as well as private carriages for larger groups are also available (please contact us for details).

You will arrive relaxed and in style as you pull into Cheltenham Racecourse station which is situated just a furlong from the Paddock and opposite the North entrance. You will pass close by to the traffic queuing to get in and out of the racecourse – a truly amazing and amusing experience.
